ARTHUR HAN-NAN WU, PHD

A native of Tainan, Taiwan, Dr. Wu came to the United States in 1962. He obtained a M.S. degree from Ohio State University and a Dr.Sc. degree from George Washington University. He has taught at George Washington University, the U.S. Naval Academy, and University of the District of Columbia for 14 years as an adjunct professor. He is currently working for the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command Headquarter as a senior engineering consult. He was selected as the Engineer of the Year (1985) by the Navy, and is listed In Who's Who in America. His services to the Taiwanese Community include: (I) President of the Capital Area Taiwanese Federal Credit Union, (2) Director of the North America Taiwanese Professors Association, and (3) Director of the Washington D.C. Chinese-American Professional Association. In 1985 while serving as the NATFA D.C. Chapter President, Dr. Wu, with the cooperation of Mr. Andre Yang ,then President of TYAF, established the Outstanding Taiwanese Youth Awards and "Taiwan Night". Since then, he has been dedicating his time serving as member of the Youth Awards Review Board and assisting in the Youth Funds' annual "Taiwan night" events.

Eric Chang

Eric Chang is a senior at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda. He is captain of his wrestling team and was named onto the All-State Freshman/Sophomore and All-Academic Wrestling teams. He is a senior class officer at his high school and also a youth council officer at his church. He has been playing the drum for three years.

He believes in stressing to the young Taiwanese musicians a sense of identity, and to provide them with role models of leadership, drawing resources from our rich ethnic tradition.

Eric is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Whei-Chung Chang.

Kenny Fang

Kenneth Fang is a senior at Quince Orchard High School. He is an active member of several different clubs and organizations. Kenny is also an active member of the Taiwanese Youth Group (TYC), and serves as a publicity officer for the TYC. He has been on the Honor Roll throughout high school and is currently in five honor classes.

Kenny has also won numerous awards. In 1986 Kenny won his school `s Merit Award for being the most likely to succeed. In 1985, Kenny won the superintendents Writing Award and had his work published in a book called `Adventures in Writing'. In addition to these awards, he has won eight trophies in five different sports and over forty first-place ribbons for swimming. Furthermore, Kenny is a blue belt in karate. He is currently attending a medical career explorers program at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.

Kenny is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jin Son Fang.

Cindy Huang

Cindy Huang is a senior at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria Virginia. Her activities in school include being an IMPACT representative to the student government, playing the clarinet in band, managing the Boys' Gymnastics team, being a member of the Prom committee, helping with graduation plans, and being captain of the Varsity Cheer leading squad. She also plays the piano and was a pre-teen counselor at the Taiwanese-American conference at Pennsylvania. State University two summers ago. Last year, she was the Vice President for Marketing for a profitable student company that was formed as a nine-week class project. At Jefferson, all students are required to do a senior project in one of the technology labs in order to graduate. She is currently working in the Engineering Graphics and Computer Drafting Research lab in order to come up with the floor plans for a house that a gentleman has requested that she design.

Cindy Huang is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Huang

Oliver Wang

Oliver Wang is a junior at Montgomery Blair High School. He plays violin and piano, and is the accompanist for the TPC Youth Choir. At school, he has joined the Physics Club, Cambodian Club, the Architecture Club, the Vietnamese Club, and the Karate Club. Oliver loves babies and children, and wishes that parents would bring them to his church more often.

Oliver is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul T. R. Wang

Evonne Lai

Evonne Lai is a senior at McLean High School. She has been a student of Victoria Slaymaker for the past nine years. Evonne has participated in many festivals and competitions, and has performed duet recitals with her sisters. She was a winner in the Washington Music Teachers' Achievement Awards, the Spring Field Music Club's Composer Competition, and the Alice Leestma Scholarship Award, performing annually in the National Guild Auditions. In addition to her music study, she is the member of eight different clubs in her school. She is the President of the McLean Interact, Co-Vice President of the Taiwanese Youth Group, Business Editor of McLean's Tartan Literary Magazine, Recorder of the Community Service Task Force and Treasurer of the National Honor Society. She also enjoys running and lacrosse.

Evonne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Lai.

Gary Lin

Gary Lin is a junior at Thomas Wotton High School. He takes part in many activities such as being on the baseball team. He is very active in the Asian American club and the Special Friends club for the mentally ill teenagers at his school. He held first chair violinist before he pursued to be a drummer. He has won numerous awards for his musical talents. Gary takes part in the Taiwanese Youth Group (TYG) as a public relations officer and a council leader at his church.

Gary is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Ai Jeng Lin.

Albert Hau

Albert Hau is a junior at Delaney High School. In addition to being president of his school's chapter of Future newspaper, Albert has been published in both the school literary magazine and a publication for the Maryland Creative Writing Project. In 1988, he received a first place plaque in the Maryland State Mathematics League's Eighth Grade Math Contest. Albert has graduated from the Peabody Preparatory Institute of Johns Hopkins University, His achievements include second Baltimore Music Teachers Association's Junior Keyboard Competition, and third in the Young Artists Piano Competition for Chinese Music. He has also accompanied the Preparatory String High School Comedy, the Man Who Comes to Dinner.

Albert is a leader in the Baltimore Taiwanese Youth Group. Albert also participates regularly in the Annual East Coast Taiwanese-American Conferences,

Albert is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Justin Chin-Chung Hsu.

Benjamin Lee

Benjamin Lee is a junior at John Carroll High School in Bel Air. He is a member of community service club, Outreach. This club aims at entertaining local senior citizens, tutoring younger children with academic difficulties, and collecting toed and toys for needy families during Christmas. Benjamin is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. He received first honors for every quarter of his high school career. He is the captain of the varsity volleyball team, and received five varsity letters, Benjamin loves to ski, play piano and had his drawings displayed at Hunt Valley Mall.

Benjamin is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jean T. Lee
